fun in the snow

Fun in the snow…Do we ever really grow up? I remember as a kid the first time I saw snow. We were going on a family trip and the moment I saw the white stuff, I wanted Dad to stop the car and let me out to play in it. Never mind that it was dirty from road film. There wasn’t enough to make a proper snowman or snowball or anything else really.

Well, that was when I was a kid living in Santa Barbara. Now that I am an adult who has to drive in the stuff, you think I would be sick of it. Au contraire! Who says I have to grow up anyway?

angels in snow

I began skiing when I moved to Reno at age 12. It’s crazy thinking how long my skis were (195cm) If your skis weren’t way over your head, you weren’t trying hard enough. Now there are shaped skis that thankfully are shorter. As a teenager, I was going to live forever and I exercised little caution.

That was then…Now my knee hurts and I don’t like picking up too much speed, but that is another story. Living only 20 minutes from Mt Rose Ski Tahoe, we treat ourselves to yearly ski passes. Any excuse to play in the snow is good enough for me. Especially when it involves making snow angels and embarrassing my teenage son.

a new hobby: snowshoeing

My good friend Yvonne took me snowshoeing last week. Wow! What a crazy workout that was. It takes a lot less equipment than skiing and you don’t have to purchase a lift ticket. All you need is some snowshoes and the will to move. Yvonne took me up on Chickadee ridge overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe. I could think of a lot worse ways to spend my day off.

taking a moment from snowshoeing to mug for my camera

I imagine I burned about a zillion calories that day and I can’t wait to snowshoe it again. What do you like to do in the snow? Do you live near it or is it exotic to you? Share your best snow day stories.

Hah! I was thinking, “Where are her glove?!” as you did the snow angel, then you said the same thing! I have to say that I am not missing the snow this year!! We just moved from MI (COLD and SNOWY!) to SE England where it is delightfully mild! My spring jacket is getting me through winter.

Yeah, I took off the gloves in order to turn on the phone for Sam. Silly me! I forgot to put them back on. I guess that is all part of the scarring process. Thanks for stopping by Tamara.

This has been a very good snow year so far but it is not always the case. Last year we skied on painted rocks until February. Right now as I look outside the window, it is raining. I sure hope it is not raining in the Sierras as well.

Come on over and we will have a snowball fight.

OK, you really need to wear your gloves while making a snow angel. Also, move your legs too so you get that nice angel dress as well. My boys and husband were just making snow angels at our local sledding hill (we live in Maine). I should have made a video!

Snow shoeing looks like so much fun. I need to put this activity on my list!

Jennifer, that was a stupid idea to make the angel sans gloves. I was so shell-shocked from the snow in my sleeves that I forgot to move my feet except to get up and out of the snow as quickly as possible. Thanks for stopping by.
